Ultrasound

What is an ultrasound scan?

Diagnostic ultrasound helps us to diagnose chronic soft tissue and sports-related injuries. An ultrasound scan builds up a picture of the inside of the body using sound waves of a frequency above the audible range of the human ear. A small hand-held probe is pressed against the skin surface and a live image of the underlying structures is generated. This helps us to diagnose your condition and deliver effective treatment.

why would i need an ultrasound scan?

  • Is it a tear or muscular strain?

  • Is it an inflamed tendon or a microfracture of the underlying bone?

  • Is the joint itself swollen or are the ligaments torn?

These and many more questions can be answered with an ultrasound scan.

If you have neck or arm pain, diagnostic ultrasound can be used to check if the problem is coming from your shoulder joint.

If you have pelvic or leg pain, diagnostic ultrasound can be used to check if the hip is the source of the pain.

Ultrasound can be used to scan the shoulder, elbow, wrists, hips, knees and ankle joints.
